NCAA champion will kick off partnership at U.S. Open
GLENVIEW, Illinois – The Western Golf Association and University of Mississippi standout Michael La Sasso have announced a new partnership, making La Sasso – the reigning NCAA individual champion – an official ambassador for the WGA and Evans Scholars Foundation.
La Sasso will kick off the one-year partnership by sporting the Evans Scholars Foundation logo on his golf bag at Oakmont Country Club this week as he competes in his first U.S. Open.
The Raleigh, North Carolina, native finished his stellar junior season last month by becoming the second player in Ole Miss history to win the NCAA individual championship, cementing his status as one of the top players in amateur golf. As a WGA ambassador, La Sasso will help promote WGA championships and the Evans Scholars Foundation while supporting the organization’s efforts to grow the game and create more youth caddying opportunities.
“Michael represents everything the WGA stands for – character, hard work and exceptional golf,” said Vince Pellegrino, WGA senior vice president of tournaments. “His rise to the top of the amateur golf world is inspiring, and we’re proud to support him as he continues to pursue his goals.”
La Sasso, ranked No. 8 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, has competed in the WGA’s Western Amateur championship twice and is expected to be in the field for the 2025 Western Amateur at Skokie Country Club in Glencoe, Illinois, on July 28-Aug. 2.
