Campaign continues to address rising need for the Evans Scholarship

GLENVIEW, IL – Led by the generous support of 80 Match Play Partners, the Evans Scholars Foundation’s 2022 Match Play Challenge campaign is building momentum as it enters a critical stage of the year.

Since its inception in 2011, the Match Play Challenge has helped the Foundation change the game and send more caddies to college. Each year, Match Play Partners make leadership gifts of $50,000 or greater that are pooled and used to match every gift of $2,500 or greater the Foundation receives.

As the Foundation reaches the conclusion of The Promise Campaign – a comprehensive fundraising effort now in its final year – and pursues an ambitious long-range plan, leaders are asking supporters to step up by making Par Club gifts of $2,500 or greater this year to ensure that none of the matching funds go unused.

All funds raised through the Match Play Challenge will be used to offset annual program costs that include housing, tuition, community living expenses and career services support for Evans Scholars. With a record 1,100 Evans Scholars attending 2022 leading universities nationwide during the 2022-23 academic year, those costs are expected to exceed $27 million.

“We are thankful for our Match Play Partners and the leadership they demonstrate through their gifts,” WGA Chairman Joe Desch said. “As we work to increase youth caddie opportunities and award more Evans Scholarships every year, contributions to the Match Play Challenge are critical to supporting more caddies in their pursuit of a college degree.”

WGA Director Mike Keiser, who helped lead the development of the Match Play Challenge, is serving once again as the campaign’s Honorary Chairman while supporting the initiative as a Match Play Partner.

Since 2011, the Match Play Challenge has helped generate more than $166.5 million in support of youth caddies and the Evans Scholars Foundation, enabling the Foundation to increase the number of Scholars in school, establish new Evans Scholars chapters and create new youth caddie programs from coast to coast.

Its continued success is critical to the Foundation’s long-range plans.

“We are humbled by the kindness of our supporters and their gifts to the Match Play Challenge,” said Bill Kingore, Executive Vice President. “These major gifts make it possible for us to continue growing the program and investing in the leaders of tomorrow. As defenders of youth caddying and youth caddie scholarships, we are committed to ensuring that youth caddying will be here and flourishing for many years to come.”
