Overview

The Graduate Resident Advisor (GRA) provides support, guidance and leadership to the individual Evans Scholars, Executive Board, ES Advisor, WGA/ESF officials, and the University to maximize the potential for success for all Evans Scholars and to help ensure the best possible living environment. The GRA will be provided with housing in the Scholarship House and an annual base stipend.

Eligibility

Both Evans Scholars Alums and non-Evans Scholars are eligible for the GRA position. GRAs are required to hold a bachelor’s degree. Candidates enrolled or set to enroll full-time in graduate-level coursework in the 2025-26 academic year will be given the strongest consideration. In some cases, those fully employed in a professional field locally may also be considered.”

Demonstrate excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills. Have enthusiasm and a genuine interest in working with and mentoring undergraduate students. Are excellent leaders with strong motivational skills. Possess a strong sense of responsibility and high level of maturity.

Compensation

  • Housing is provided to the GRA in the Scholarship House in a single bedroom. 
  • A one-time stipend.

Job Responsibilities

  • Work closely with individual Evans Scholars along with the Executive Board, Evans Scholars Advisor(s), and ESF to ensure the success of all the Evans Scholars. Specific attention given to the New Evans Scholars and underperforming returning Evans Scholars.
  • Assess the needs of the Evans Scholars, individually and collectively, and formally present educational and social programs to the Chapter a minimum of once a term. In addition, GRAs are expected to coordinate with campus counseling centers to host a mental health awareness presentation for the chapter in the first term.
  • Assist Career Services in hosting the New Scholar Career Readiness series involving resume building, cover letter writing, networking, and more
  • Facilitate roommate agreement process ensuring that all roommate pairs complete their roommate agreement form within the first two weeks of the fall semester (or within two weeks of a new roommate pairing). GRA may be asked to mediate roommate agreement conversations or roommate conflicts using the completed agreement form.
  • Facilitate Room Condition Report process at move-in and move-out, utilize VPSHO and RA(s) for assistance.
  • Manage Help Desk, including the training of Help Desk worker, management of the schedule, and sharing logs with ESF monthly.
  • In the event of an emergency, will work directly with the Chapter President, Evans Scholars Advisor(s) and WGA/ESF officials in taking appropriate action and notification the proper authorities.
  • Establish and post office hours, during which time they will be available to meet with Evans Scholars. GRAs should plan to hold office hours for at least 4 hours per week on at least 2 separate days per week.
  • Regularly attend Chapter and Executive Board meetings, as well as Chapter functions. Assist in encouraging attendance and promoting the Living Chick’s Dream Initiative.
  • Meet with the Chapter President, Evans Scholars Advisor(s), and WGA/ESF officials monthly.
  • Complete weekly checks of the public areas of the Scholarship House and property. Any maintenance, security or cleanliness issues should be reported to the appropriate person for immediate attention. In addition, the GRA will participate in all formal end-of-term and other Scholarship House inspections.
  • Attend national meetings and training sessions as required by the Evans Scholars Foundation.
  • Complete any approved university Resident Advisor training program as required by the university and/or student organizations.
  • Expect 15-20 hours of work per week.
