Michael Hall, Sarahi Ortiz will step into new roles for the 2019-20 academic year

GOLF, IL – University of Missouri Evans Scholar Michael Hall has been named the new president of the Evans Scholars National Committee for the 2019-20 academic year. Sarahi Ortiz of the University of Oregon is the new vice president.

The National Committee is responsible for helping to plan Program-wide events, such as the New Scholar summit, as well as serve as liaisons to the 985 Evans Scholars across the country on high-level topics. They participate in philanthropic and organizational events, including the BMW Championship.

Below is a brief bio on the new National Committee leaders.

Michael Hall, of St. Louis, Missouri, caddied at Algonquin Golf Club in St. Louis. He is a junior at the University of Missouri, studying business administration with an emphasis in management. After graduation, he plans to attend law school. Michael is a two-term president at the Missouri Evans Scholars chapter and is currently serving his second term.

Michael says, “The Evans Scholars Program has helped me to become a great leader, and I am proud to be president. None of what I achieved in college could have been possible without the Evans Scholars Foundation.”

Sarahi Ortiz, of Culver City, California, caddied at Onwentsia Club in Lake Forest, Illinois, through the WGA Caddie Academy, a program that provides under-resourced high school students an opportunity to caddie and earn money while living together during the summer. She is a junior at the University of Oregon, with a major in Spanish and a minor in leadership and administrative skills. After graduation, she plans to teach low-income high school students and help provide education and opportunities they might not otherwise have. Sarahi is president of the Oregon Evans Scholars chapter, after serving as vice president of New Scholars on last year’s executive board. Last summer she returned to the WGA Caddie Academy as a counselor, and will do so again in the summer of 2019.

Sarahi says, “Being an Evans Scholar has opened my life to wonderful opportunities. The Evans Scholarship has done so much for me, and I cannot help but want to give back to such a wonderful organization.”
