New Evans Scholars will begin school this fall
GLENVIEW, Ill. — Two student caddies from Quincy Country Club in Quincy, Illinois, have been awarded the Evans Scholarship — a full housing and tuition college grant offered to golf caddies — following a selection meeting interview held on Nov. 25.
The Evans Scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate a strong caddie record, excellent academics, financial need, and outstanding character. It is valued at more than $125,000 over four years.
The Western Golf Association (WGA), headquartered in Glenview, Illinois, oversees the Evans Scholars Program, one of golf’s favorite charities and the nation’s largest scholarship program for caddies.
Abram Getz, of Palmyra, Missouri, and Casey Golden, of Quincy, Illinois, will begin college next fall as Evans Scholars, attending one of the Program’s 28 partner universities nationwide. Getz plans to major in parks and recreation and pursue a Professional Golf Management (PGM) minor, with the goal of building a career in the golf industry. Golden intends to study biochemistry on a pre-medicine track, with aspirations to work in orthopedics and sports medicine.
“I’m proud to welcome Abram and Casey into the Evans Scholars family,” said Jim Titus, a WGA Director and Evans Scholar Alum who oversees the caddie program at Quincy Country Club. “Both have shown exceptional dedication on the course and in the classroom, and this achievement is a testament to their hard work.”
Getz and Golden are the latest success stories from Quincy Country Club’s youth caddie program, which was established in 2021. Since its launch, the program has offered local students meaningful on-course work experience and a pathway to higher education that might not otherwise have been accessible.
“Caddying has connected me with mentors who have supported and encouraged me,” Getz said. “I’ve learned the importance of hard work, gratitude, and staying determined. The Evans Scholarship gives me the opportunity to pursue my dreams, and I’m incredibly thankful for everyone at Quincy Country Club who has helped me along the way.”
Evans Scholar selection meeting interviews will continue nationwide through spring, with an estimated 380 caddies expected to receive the scholarship for the 2025–26 academic year.
Currently, a record 1,260 caddies are enrolled at 27 universities across the country as Evans Scholars. More than 12,575 caddies have graduated as Evans Scholars since the Program was founded by famed Chicago amateur golfer Charles “Chick” Evans Jr. in 1930
Funds for the Evans Scholarship come mostly from contributions by more than 43,500 supporters across the country, who are members of the Evans Scholars Par Club program. Evans Scholars Alumni donate more than $15 million annually, and all proceeds from the BMW Championship, the penultimate PGA TOUR Playoff event in the PGA TOUR’s FedExCup competition, benefit the Evans Scholars Foundation. In 2026, the BMW Championship will be held at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, Missouri, from Aug. 18-23.
