Miami of Ohio student named first Endowed Scholar
GLENVIEW, Ill. – No Laying Up has announced Abigail Boyer as the first recipient of the No Laying Up Endowed Named Evans Scholarship, marking a meaningful milestone in the growing partnership between No Laying Up and the Western Golf Association’s Evans Scholars Foundation.
The Evans Scholarship is a full tuition and housing college scholarship for high-achieving caddies with financial need. An Irwin, Pennsylvania, native, Boyer caddied at Pittsburgh Field Club and attended Norwin High School. She is currently a student at Miami University in Ohio, where she is majoring in Strategic Communication and co-majoring in Fashion Design.
The No Laying Up Endowed Named Evans Scholarship was made possible through the support of the No Laying Up community, including NLU-run events, company contributions and donations from community members. No Laying Up’s goal is to raise $500,000 to fund the scholarship in perpetuity, creating lasting support for Evans Scholars at Miami University. The scholarship reflects a shared commitment between No Laying Up and the Evans Scholars Foundation to create opportunities through golf and support the next generation of caddies.
The endowed scholarship will continue to support Evans Scholars at Miami University, with a new No Laying Up Endowed Named Evans Scholar selected after Boyer completes her remaining two years on campus.
“We’ve admired everything about the Evans Scholarship for as long as we’ve been in the golf world and are completely humbled to have one with our name on it,” said D.J. Piehowski, creative director at No Laying Up. “We look forward to supporting Abby’s journey at Miami University and hope she can help us with one of our persistent podcast arguments: deciding whether or not Pittsburgh is in the Midwest.”
Founded in 2014, No Laying Up has grown from a group text among college friends who met at Miami University into one of golf’s leading media brands, producing podcasts, video series, written features, social media content and community events for avid golfers around the world. Its partnership with the Evans Scholars Foundation has continued to grow in recent years, rooted in a shared belief in the power of golf to connect people and change lives.
For Boyer, the scholarship has provided the opportunity to continue her education at Miami University while pursuing her passion for communication, fashion design and golf. Her long-term goal is to design women’s golf apparel that is stylish, functional and helps more women feel confident on the course.
“Caddying has shaped who I am and taught me the importance of hard work, confidence and building relationships,” Boyer said. “At Miami, I have been able to grow academically and personally while pursuing my interests in communication, fashion and golf. I’m incredibly grateful to No Laying Up and the Evans Scholars Foundation for this opportunity. Receiving the Evans Scholarship means so much to me and my family, and I’m excited for what’s ahead.”
The Western Golf Association (WGA), headquartered in Glenview, Illinois, has supported the Chick Evans Scholarship Program through the Evans Scholars Foundation (ESF) since 1930. Known as one of golf’s favorite charities, it is the nation’s largest scholarship program for caddies.
“We are grateful to No Laying Up and its community for their commitment to supporting young caddies,” said John Kaczkowski, President & CEO of the Western Golf Association. “This scholarship is a powerful example of what can happen when people who love golf come together to make a lasting impact. Abby is an outstanding young person, and we are proud to recognize her as the first No Laying Up Endowed Named Evans Scholar.”
Currently, 1,260 Evans Scholars are enrolled at 27 leading universities nationwide, and more than 12,575 caddies have graduated as Evans Scholars since the program was established in 1930.
