Over 150 promising high school students to caddie this summer

GLENVIEW, Ill.  The Western Golf Association’s (WGA) Caddie Academy returns this month with more than 155 young men and women participating across the country.

Caddie Academy provides work opportunities to promising high school students with financial need and strong academics. They are selected to take part in the program during their freshman year of high school, and after successfully completing three summers on the golf course, become eligible to apply for the Evans Scholarship – a full tuition and housing grant to college.

“The continued growth of this unique summer program allows even more young people the opportunity to earn money, meet role models, learn invaluable life lessons and ultimately apply for a lifechanging scholarship,” says Kara Chin, director of Caddie Academy and Scholarships at the WGA.

WGA Caddie Academy – Chicago/Young Women is returning for its 12th summer with 85 participants. Students live together for seven weeks at Woodlands Academy of the Sacred Heart in Lake Forest, Illinois, while caddying at one of 15 participating clubs along Chicago’s North Shore.

Participating clubs include Briarwood Country Club, Conway Farms Golf Club, Evanston Golf Club, Exmoor Country Club, The Glen Club, Glen View Club, Indian Hill Club, Ivanhoe Club, Knollwood Club, Lake Shore Country Club, Northmoor Country Club, Onwentsia Club, Skokie Country Club, Twin Orchard Country Club and Westmoreland Country Club.

WGA Caddie Academy - Chicago/Young Men is returning for its seventh summer with 30 participants. Students will live together for seven weeks at the Northwestern University Evans Scholars Scholarship House in Evanston, Illinois, while caddying at one of four participating clubs along Chicago’s North Shore.

Participating clubs include North Shore Country Club, Old Elm Golf Club, Park Ridge Country Club and Sunset Ridge Country Club.

WGA Caddie Academy – Eastern is returning for its sixth summer with 18 participants. Students will live together for seven weeks at the Platt Evans Scholars Scholarship House at Penn State University in State College, Pennsylvania, while caddying at Penn State Golf Courses.

WGA Caddie Academy – Seattle is returning for its third summer with 12 participants. Students will live together in the University of Washington Evans Scholarship House in Seattle, while caddying Seattle Golf Club and Broadmoor Golf Club.

WGA Caddie Academy – Minnesota is returning for its second summer with five participants. Students will live together in the University of Minnesota Evans Scholarship House in Minneapolis, while caddying at The Minikahda Club.

WGA Caddie Academy – Ohio is launching this summer with six participants. Students will live together in the Ohio State Evans Scholarship House in Columbus, while caddying at The Country Club at Scioto Country Club and Muirfield Village.

More than 150 Caddie Academy alumni have gone to earn the Evans Scholarship. This fall, there will be over 95 participants from Caddie Academy in school as Evans Scholars.
